The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested nine suspects and seized around 200kg of heroin on board a foreign vessel.
The Navy Media Spokesman Captain Indika de Silva when contacted by NewsRadio said the operation was carried out in international waters 2,002km South of Sri Lanka.
Captain de Silva said the group is suspected to be Iranian citizens.
The operation was carried out on the 26th of January by the Navy, the Police and intelligence units.
The stock of heroin was prepared to be transferred to a local vessel.
During the interception of the vessel the stock of heroin was hurled into the ocean and 250g of heroin was found in the suspects possession.
The nine suspects were escorted to the Colombo Port.
The Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau is conducting investigations into the suspects, the narcotics, and the satellite phones.
