Nina Christen has become the first athlete from Switzerland to win gold in a women’s shooting at the Olympic Games after winning the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions at Tokyo 2020.
The 27-year-old won in an Olympic Record score of 463.9.
Her victory at the Asaka Shooting Range this afternoon sees Christen become the first Swiss athlete since Antwerp 1920 to win multiple gold medals in shooting at the same Olympic Games – the first female to achieve this feat – after winning bronze in the 10m air rifle last week.
As the final shot came down to Christen and ROC’s Yulia Zykova, the Swiss athlete let out a small celebration after scoring a 10.2. Zykova scored a 9.5 to finish with a total of 461.9.
Yulia Karimova of ROC had been looking to become the first ever reigning world champion in the discipline to claim Olympic gold in the same event but settled for bronze.
She finished with 450.3.
