(NewsRadio); New Zealand inflicted a moral shattering 198-run defeat on Sri Lanka in the opening game of the three-match One Day International series in Auckland.

Sri Lanka was bundled out for 76 in 19.5 overs while chasing a 275-run target.

Only three Lankans hit double digit scores in the chase with Angelo Mathews being the top scorer with 18.

Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals and batters did not show any signs of reaching the modest target.

Henry Shipley was the pick of the bowler for the home side.

He took 5/31 in seven overs while Daryl Mitchell and Blair Tickner took two wickets apiece.

Earlier, all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne excelled with the ball to help Sri Lanka restrict New Zealand to 274 in 49.3 overs.

After opting to bowl first, Lankan bowlers managed to limit the scoring opportunities of the home side despite not taking wickets at regular intervals.

Chad Bowes was the first man to be dismissed in the sixth over of the innings for 14.

Finn Allen top scored with 51, while Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips and Will Young all made important contributions without batting Sri Lanka out of the game.

Rachin Ravindra who made his ODI debut today took New Zealand past 250 with his impressive 49 off just 52 deliveries.

For Sri Lanka, Karunaratne was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 4/43.

Kasun Rajitha finished with 2/38 while Lahiru Kumara picked up 2/46.
