The price of milk powder in the local market has been revised with effect from today.

Accordingly, milk powder importers informed that a one kilogram packet has been increased by Rs.250 and a 400g packet has been increased by Rs.100.

The government on Thursday reached a decision to lift the control price imposed on milk powder, and several other commodities.

Accordingly, the price of an imported kilogram of milk powder will cost Rs.1,195 while a 400g packet will cost Rs.480.

The Milk Powder Importers Association said they hope to issue new stocks to the market beginning next week.

Thereby queues seen at shops to purchase milk powder are expected to reduce by next Wednesday.

The control price imposed on milk powder, liquefied petroleum gas, wheat flour and cement was removed following the issuance of an Extraordinary Gazette notification last night.

The Gazette was issued by State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection, Lasantha Alagiyawanna.

Yesterday, importers of the listed commodities told media that they would decide the retail  prices after the Gazette is issued by the government.

Thereby new prices of the commodities will be released today. Previously wheat flour importers requested to increase a kilogram between Rs.15-20.

Milk powder importers have announced that they will increase the price for a kilogram by Rs.350.

Importers also requested that a domestic gas cylinder be revised by Rs.500 while a 50 kg cement pack be priced Rs.200 higher.
