COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that a new efficient mechanism will be introduced within two weeks to obtain passports.

The Department meanwhile has reiterated that only those who have made a prior appointment should visit its offices to obtain passports.

Appointments can be made by calling either 0707101060 or 0707101070 on weekdays between 9am and 4pm.

Meanwhile, the Immigration and Emigration Department noted that those suffering from illnesses, those hoping to leave overseas shortly and individuals who have arrived in the country on a short holiday and requiring a new passport can produce their documents and obtain the services from its offices.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration said passport applications under the ‘One-Day Service’ will be accepted from 8am to 1pm while passport applications under the ‘Normal Service’ will be accepted from 8am to 2pm.
