COLOMBO (NewsRadio); New directives have been issued by the Inspector General of Police pertaining to inspections carried out in schools over narcotics circulation.
The IGP has informed Police officers that inspections must be carried out only if they receive verified information pertaining to drugs.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said officers have been instructed to refrain from carrying out searches in schools without receiving specific information.
Police have been carrying out inspections in recent weeks adjacent to schools and in some instances within schools, following reports that drugs are being widely used by school children in some areas.
According to Police, certain groups are carrying out an organized campaign to circulate narcotics such as ICE among school children.
