All weddings held at reception halls and at residences will be prohibited with effect from midnight on Tuesday, 17th of August, until further notice.
The Government Information Department said the decision was reached owing to the coronavirus situation in the country.
Meanwhile, all events or occasions that generate crowds will not be permitted from midnight today, the 15th of August, until further notice.
The statement said restaurants will only be permitted to have a 50% capacity at all times.
Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva meanwhile requested the public to avoid all public places as much as possible.
