A new circular has been issued pertaining to the issuance if licenses for stones, sand, soil, gravel and clay mining, transportation and sale.
Secretary to the President PB Jayasundara said heads of all relevant institutions have been advised to take necessary steps to regulate the process without delay.
The new circular states that necessary steps should be taken to completely reorganize the programme implemented by the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau pertaining to the issuance of licenses.
The new circular also emphasizes that steps should be taken to vest powers with the District and Divisional Secretaries, Grama Niladhari and other officials to provide them necessary legal documents.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed a Task Force to study development priorities, private enterprises, small scale self-employment and the use of land resources and resource strategies for economic livelihood needs of those engaged in traditional occupations.
The Secretary to the President issued the new circular taking into consideration these proposals.
