COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Nearly 30,000 state sector workers will retire on the 31st of December.
State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Wakkumbura said among them are a large number of Armed Forces personnel, staff of statutory boards and corporations as well.
State Minister Wakkumbura said despite the retirement of a large number of workers, state service will not collapse.
He added a committee headed by the Secretary to the Prime Minister has also been appointed to review the state service.
The State Minister said based on recommendations certain changes will be made.
He added only when need arises, considering the country’s situation, recruitments will be approved.
The State Minister also noted that 85 percent of the monthly salary drawn by state employees will be paid once they retire.
