The Sri Lanka Navy in coordination with the Police Narcotics Bureau and the State Intelligence Service has seized a large consignment of heroin and crystal methamphetamine.
Two local fishing trawlers were also seized.
The Navy also arrested a group of local suspects in connection to the racket that was busted on Wednesday (14).
The apprehension was made by SLNS Samudura, after a lengthy surveillance operation at high seas off the southern coast.
A local multi-day fishing trawler was seized in seas off Dondra and during the search operation over 200kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine were discovered.
Meanwhile, the Navy seized another local multi-day fishing trawler with six suspects at sea while the trawler was adjacent to fuel the trawler transporting the narcotics.
The apprehended stock of drugs, the suspects and two multi-day fishing trawlers are being brought ashore.
