COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Sri Lanka Navy has seized nearly Rs. 5 billion worth of narcotics during operations conducted so far this year.
The Navy said it has held drugs with a gross street value of over Rs. 4,908 million during operations mounted in 2023.
The seized narcotics include the haul of nearly Rs. 3,593 million worth of heroin taken into custody from the multi-day fishing vessel in southern seas on Saturday.
It added, Sri Lanka Navy – the country’s First Line of Defence is committed to coordinating with other law enforcement authorities, to carry out anti-drug operations in order to foil drug smuggling attempts being made in the guise of fishing.
