COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The National Council has agreed to appoint two decisive committees during its inaugural session in Parliament today.
Inaugural meeting of the National Council took place in Parliament this morning under the patronage of Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
The meeting was held with the participation of the ruling and the opposition parties.
The Communications Department of Parliament said during the meeting, the National Council agreed to form two sub-committees related to national policies and economic stabilization.
The Speaker announced in Parliament on the 23rd of September the list of Parliamentarians that were nominated to the National Council which was established as per the proposal of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, consisting MPs from all respective political parties.
The National Council consists of the Speaker as the Chair, the Prime Minister, Leader of the House of Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, the Chief Government Whip and not more than thirty-five (35) Members of Parliament proposed by the leaders of the political parties representing the Ninth Parliament.
