The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has been closely working with relevant parties for the early release of eight Sri Lankan crew members of the oil supertanker MT Heroic Idun detained by Equatorial Guinea at its Luba Port.
Authorities of Equatorial Guinea detained the crude carrier on a request by the Nigerian Navy on the 10th of August 2022.
The Nigerian Navy said the Heroic Idun was attempting to load oil at the Akpo SBM on the 8th of August without due clearance from state oil company NNPC, and it refused to comply when ordered to stop.
Equatorial Guinea has authorised the return to Nigeria of the supertanker and its 26 crew members including 16 Indians, eight Sri Lankans, one Pole, and one Filipino.
The Sri Lankan High Commission in Nairobi is in contact with the Sri Lankan nationals.
