COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Puttalam District Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Raheem who was detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday for being in possession of a stock of undeclared gold and smart phones has been released.
Sri Lanka Customs said he was fined Rs. 7.5 million.
Customs said the MP was released after he paid the fine. Officers also confiscated the stock of gold and the smart phones.
Parliamentarian Ali Sabri Raheem was taken into custody at the BIA last morning for the possession of 3.39kg of gold jewelry and gold biscuits worth Rs. 74 million.
Customs officials also found 91 smart phones valued at Rs. 4.2 million in his luggage.
MP Ali Sabri Raheem was detained after he arrived at the BIA from Dubai.
Upon inspecting his luggage, Customs officials uncovered the stock of gold and the smart phones.
