The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees’ Union says it is hoping to hold discussions with several other unions this week over the decision by the government to vest 40 percent of the shares of the Kerewalapitiya Yugadanavi Power Plant with an American company.

Speaking to NewsRadio, Secretary Ranjan Jayalal said they will also hold talks with certain factions who are currently part of the government as well.

He said they are prepared to exert maximum pressure on the government to annul the agreement.

Jayalal noted they are not keen on staging strikes to overthrow the government but determined to suspend the agreement with the support of the public.

He said the deal is detrimental to the country and noted that it is evident as the parties involved have signed a non-disclosure agreement.

Secretary Ranjan Jayalal said if the agreement is favourable to the country, the government will not hesitate to reveal the contents.

He said there are strong opposition from within the government and they will work with all factions to annul the agreement over the Yugadanavi Power Plant.
