COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Court has granted permission to the Criminal Investigation Department to detain and question the SSP of the Monaragala Police Division who was arrested yesterday for the possession of around 650 cannabis plants.
The Monaragala Magistrate’s Court also granted permission to detain four others arrested over the incident for questioning until the 13th of January.
Based on a tip-off, Police Special Task Force personnel yesterday arrested the SSP of Monaragala after they found around 650 cannabis plants at his official residence.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said officers also seized a metal detector and a jeep suspected to have been used to carry out illegal activities.
In addition to the SSP, a Police Sergeant and three civilians were also arrested in connection with the incident.
Investigations in relation to the incident have been handed over to the CID following instructions by the Inspector General of Police.
