The Ministry of Health has reiterated that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Sri Lanka at present are safe and effective against coronavirus.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Director of the Health Promotion Bureau Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said they have conducted several tests after reports emerged that the vaccine contains several harmful substances including luciferase enzyme.
He confirmed that the Moderna vaccine does not contain luciferase enzyme as claimed on social media.
Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said it is a mRNA vaccine and contains several lipids and cholesterol, sodium chloride, 1 & 2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, tromethamine hydrochloride, acetic acid and sucrose.
Dr. Batuwanthudawa noted that the producers have confirmed the ingredients and therefore said the general public should not hesitate to get the vaccine which will prevent people from getting a severe bout of COVID-19.
