The Sri Lanka Army says the mobile vaccination programme will be carried out in Colombo South tomorrow.
The programme was launched at 10 this morning, and will be carried out in Colombo North today.
Speaking to media at the Army Headquarters in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva said under the first phase, the programme will be carried out in the Colombo District.
The Army Commander noted the programme will be implemented across the country in future.
General Silva said the Army received reports of unvaccinated individuals who are immobile at home and are facing difficulties in travelling to vaccination centres.
He said a selected few were informed via telephone of the time that the mobile unit will visit the relevant area for the administration of the vaccine.
The Army Commander said doctors and nurses who are visiting have been issued directives to vaccinate any unvaccinated individuals above 30 years of age, at residences.
The mobile vaccination programme is being carried out to vaccinate the elderly, persons with serious illnesses and special needs and those immobile in the Western Province.
Ten special vehicles with medical teams of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the Directorate of Preventive Medicine and Mental Health inside each vehicle will be on standby.
The Sri Lanka Army said those who require the service must register themselves with the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) through the hotline 1906 or via 0112860002.
