A discussion between Foreign Minister Prof. GL Peiris and the Colombo-based Diplomatic Community took place today.
The event held at the Foreign Ministry auditorium marked the first time that the entire diplomatic community collectively met since Minister Peiris took over as Foreign Minister.
The Minister requested their support for the resumption of tourism and economic activity.
He briefed the diplomatic community at length on the recovery of the Generalised Scheme of Preferences+ tax concession and the progress made on human rights.
However, the Minister reiterated that Sri Lanka refuses to establish an external mechanism while a domestic process is underway.
The Minister also explained the progress of the constitutional reform process and the conduct of the Provincial Council Election.
