Trade Unionist Ananda Palitha says Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila is misleading the public by making false statements from time to time.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Palitha said he had never claimed there was a shortage of fuel.
He said Minister Gammanpila had made 10 false statement including that a standard pricing is being maintained adding however the Minister increased fuel prices in June.
Palitha said the Minister also claimed that Sri Lanka will receive oil tankers of the China Harbour while also claiming that he will not allow for a shortage in fuel.
Palitha said the Energy Minister ended up suspending operation of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery.
The Trade Unionist said Minister Gammanpila had further claimed crude oil imports were stopped in order for essential items to be imported due to the dollar crisis.
Palitha said the Minister’s claims to not import kerosene on spot tenders were also proved to false as it has now doubled due to refined fuel being imported on spot tenders.
He also said there are over 800 fuel tankers as opposed the Minister’s claims that there were only a limited number in operation.
