The Ministry of Agriculture says 90 percent of the distribution of urea fertilizer for the Yala season has been completed.
The Ministry said it is hoping to complete the distribution of the remaining two percent within this week.
Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera has meanwhile, instructed the Secretary to the Ministry Rohana Pushpakumara to take steps to conduct a full audit regarding the distribution of urea fertilizer to farmers in the Yala season.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has said that if there are any deficiencies, shortcomings or irregularities in the distribution of urea fertilizer to the farmers, they should be rectified in the process of fertilizer distribution during the Maha season.
The Minister has said they also intend to take legal action if any officials or responsible persons were involved in malpractices during the fertiliser distribution.
The Agriculture Minister has instructed to start the full audit immediately after the completion of fertilizer distribution.
