The principal and two Policemen who were arrested for assaulting and injuring students at a school in Millaniya, Bandaragama have been remanded.
The three individuals were remanded till the 16th of November by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (8).
The Ministry of Education has also appointed a committee to invetsigate the incident.
Investigations conducted by the National Child Protection Authority revealed that several teachers of the school in question and a group of Policemen attached to the Millaniya Police Station had assaulted the children.
Several teachers had initially assaulted the children over a theft while they subsequently called in the Millaniya Police.
The Policemen had brutally assaulted the group of children while one student is currently receiving in-house treatment.
