COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Milk Powder importers claim that the milk powder prices can be reduced further in the first week of April.
Earlier this week, the price of a 1 kg packet of imported powdered milk was reduced by Rs. 200.
Milk Powder importers also announced that a 400g pack of imported powdered milk has been reduced by Rs. 80.
The reduction in prices come at a time, the Sri Lankan Rupee has been appreciating against the US Dollar.
After the government secured the bailout package from the International Monetary Fund, the Rupee strengthened further.
Importers claim that the current stocks in the market were imported before the Rupee appreciation.
They have assured to revise the prices once the new stocks are imported.
The prices of milk powder in the world market have also reduced in the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, milk power importers have stated that the demand for powdered milk has decreased considerably in the past few months.
