COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Chairman of Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha has been removed from his post temporarily.
The directive has been issued by the Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa through a special gazette notification, dated 14th of February.
The gazette also declares that the Vice-Chairman of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha be appointed as the Chairman to oversee duties in the interim.
The development comes after the Chairman of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested on bribery charges recently.
The Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province has also appointed a retired High Court Judge to probe the allegations leveled against the arrested Chairman of Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha.
