The National Audit Office reports that the Mattala International Airport incurred a loss of more than Rs.2,000 billion, after taxes, between 2017 and 2021.
Issuing a report the office said, the operational costs of the Mattala Airport exceeded Rs.2 billion.
The report noted that the cost is 20 times more than the income generated through the airport.
It also states that Rs.36.56 billion spent on the construction of the airport has not been used effectively.
The net loss of the Mattala Airport after taxes in 2021 is Rs.4 billion.
