The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says malnutrition among children in Sri Lanka has reached a significant level due to the government’s failed financial system.
Speaking during a media briefing this afternoon, Parliamentarian Ashok Abeysinghe attributed this development to the suspension of the nutrition package provided to expectant women and the Thriposha ration given to children.
MP Abeysinghe said all citizens from the youngest to the oldest have been burdened due to failed economic policies of the present administration.
The Parliamentarian said the Sri Lanka Thriposha Limited was shut down after the government came into power.
He said education of 4,300,000 students has been disrupted for almost two years as the government failed to provide a streamlined online education process adding the government has not been able to establish television channels to provide education to children.
Furthermore, MP Abeysinghe commenting on the recent string of protests said, for the first time in the country’s history, the farming community is voicing their frustrations against rulers.
He added 250,000 teachers have taken to the streets calling for a solution to salary anomalies.
The Parliamentarian said the incompetent government decided on a prompt move to organic fertiliser that has burdened farmers.
He said this resulted in reduced crops which in return will result in a famine within the next few months.
MP Abeysinghe said the working masses are facing major challenges as the cost of essential items have increased rapidly.
The Parliamentarian said according to records, the monthly cost for food of a family of four has increased by Rs.15,000.
