World champion Malaika Mihambo has added the Olympic title to her collection after jumping 7.00m in the final round of the women’s long jump competition at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium today.
USA’s Brittney Reese who was in the lead up until the final round, added a silver medal to her Olympic tally of gold at London 2012 and silver at Rio 2016 with a jump of 6.97.
Ese Brume emulated her bronze medal at the 2019 world championships, with third place at the Olympic Games after jumping the same distance as Reece.
However, Brume dropped behind the American who recorded a longer second-best jump than the Nigerian.
Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic, bronze medallist from Rio 2016, finished out of the medals.
