Major Ajith Prasanna sentenced to four years for contempt of court

The Supreme Court today sentenced retired Major Ajith Prasanna to four years rigorous imprisonment.

COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Supreme Court today sentenced retired Major Ajith Prasanna to four years rigorous imprisonment.

The Supreme Court also imposed a fine of Rs.300,000 on the retired Major.

The sentence was pronounced after the Supreme Court found retired Major Ajith Prasanna guilty of contempt of court.

The order was issued by a three-member Supreme Court bench consisting of Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, S Thurairaja and Gamini Amarasekara.

Major Ajith Prasanna was charged for making comments critical of the judiciary during a media briefing in January 2020.
