Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed officials to issue urea fertiliser to farmers who cultivate maize during the Yala season.
The stock of urea fertiliser provided by the government of India is due to reach Sri Lanka in the first week of this month.
It is planned to provide 50,000MT of the 65,000MT fertiliser for paddy cultivation and 10,000MT for maize cultivation.
The remaining 5,000MT of urea will be provided for tea cultivation together with any excess fertiliser from paddy cultivation.
