Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today (11) temporarily lifted the overseas travel ban imposed on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for a period of 10 days.

An overseas travel ban was imposed on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in relation to a case being heard over the attack on the peaceful protest at Galle Face last year.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed Court that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa requested that the ban be lifted temporarily.

The attorney representing the former President requested Court to allow his client to travel overseas from the 20th to the 30th of January.

Taking all facts into account, Court granted consent and adjourned the hearing till the 28th of March.
