COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Chief Prelate of the three Buddhist Chapters have written to President Ranil Wickremesinghe pertaining to the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill.

Through the letter, the Chief Prelates have requested the removal of unsuitable clauses in the Anti-Terrorism Bill after an extensive dialogue with society and through a panel of experts.

Chief Prelate of the Buddhist Chapters have highlighted the broad definition of ‘terrorism’ in the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill which according to them can be used to take action against peaceful protesters and those speaking up about shortcomings of an incumbent government.

They have mentioned that passing the bill in its current form could be adverse for Sri Lanka and therefore have requested to amend the bill by obtaining inputs from a panel of experts.
