A magnitude 6.5 earthquake has struck near Andaman and Nicobar Islands around 9:12 this morning.
The Department of Meteorology in a statement urged those residing near and along the coast around the island to be attentive of future announcements.
Tremors were felt twice in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with moderate intensity this morning.
The National Centre for Seismology said the first blow of magnitude 4.3 was felt on the Richter level near Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
According to NCS, the first tremor occurred at 6:27a.m and the second an hour later at 7.21am with a magnitude of 4.6.
