LPL 2022: Colombo down Galle by 7 wickets in the Eliminator

COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Colombo Stars captained by Angelo Mathews defeated Galle Gladiators by 7 wickets in the Eliminator of the 2022 Lanka Premier League tournament in Colombo.

Chasing a 109-run target in the rain affected game, the Stars crossed the line in 16.5 overs losing 3 wickets to progress to the Qualifier 2 of the tournament.

Experienced Ravi Bopara and skipper Mathews steered the chase with an unbroken 65-run partnership.

Bopara was unbeaten on 43 while Mathews hit 20 not out.

Earlier after sent into bat, the Gladiators managed just 108/9 in their allotted 18 overs.

Only Sahan Arachchige and Imad Wasim reached double figures.

Arachchige scored 53 off 31 deliveries while Wasim hit 17.

For the Stars, Benny Howell finished with 3/17 while Kasun Rajitha and Mohammad Nabi picked up two wickets apiece.

Colombo Stars will now take on Kandy Falcons in the Qualifier 2 to progress to Friday’s final of the LPL 2022.
