Health officials say patients may suffer from symptoms of long covid up to eight months after contracting the virus.

Doctors said symptoms may include fatigue, chest pains and lung related illnesses.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau Specialist Dr. Nandana Dickmadugoda said people pay less attention regarding COVID-19 at present adding however it is not a simple sickness.

He said persons who do not show critical symptoms after contracting COVID-19, can still suffer from long covid.

He added over 200 symptoms of long covid have been identified globally.

Dr. Dickmadugoda said some patients suffer from the symptoms for over eight months and may need to be hospitalized or visit the hospital for treatment.

He said fatigue is one of the main symptoms adding some patients may experience fatigue after walking several steps.

He added however there is no need to panic as the symptoms are curable, although it may last several months.

Dr. Dickmadugoda noted another main symptom is chest pains adding many worry that chest pains are an indication of a heart attack as they’ve heard of blood clots due to the coronavirus.

He added however tests will only be conducted if necessary, if an individual is experiencing chest pains and visits a doctor or long covid clinic.
