The Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena says a lockdown will not have to be imposed amidst the present coronavirus situation, if health guidelines are heeded diligently.

Dr. Gunawardena said the Delta virus variant is spreading rapidly from one to another, as is the nature of the variant.

He stated that the virus variant contributes to sever symptoms, an increase in patients, health complications and a growing need for oxygen.

Dr. Asela Gunawardena said the number of coronavirus deaths is also significantly high owing to the Delta virus variant.
