Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera says people are chanting slogans ‘Rajapaksa’s Go Home’ and ‘Gota Go Home’ and called for the negative implications of such requests to be considered especially in terms of the President being removed.
MP Jayasekera speaking at a media briefing said in the event the President vacates the post, a vote must be held in Parliament and one individual must claim 113 votes.
However, the MP noted that failing to do so will result in no alternative stating that the failure of one individual to garner 113 votes will lead to a dire situation.
He called on the youth on streets to understand the gravity of such a situation.
However, MP Jayasekera also stated that the concept and struggle of the youth is for the President and the Rajapaksa family to be removed from office.
He said the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is therefore proposing that the President remain, while his powers be curtailed by amending the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, adding that the President too expressed his willingness towards such a move.
The Parliamentarian said all Members of Parliament want to bring an end to the present turmoil in a smooth manner.
However, he charged that certain foolish leaders have failed to understand the importance of addressing the present situation.
