An 18-year-old youth has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in Maligawatta for assaulting a Deputy Inspector General of Police and a Superintendent of Police and stealing an official Police firearm on the 9th of May in Panchikawatte.
Police said the stolen semi-automatic handgun, two magazines, and 20 live-ammunition were seized from the possession of the suspect.
A group including the arrested suspect attacked a Police vehicle during the unrest on the 9th of May.
The CID arrested the suspect, a resident of Colombo 11, as part of investigations.
He will be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today and will be charged under the Criminal Code, the Public Properties Act, and the Firearms Ordinance.
