The Marine Environment Protection Authority has received a report pertaining to the loss of marine life as a result of the fire onboard the X-Press Pearl vessel, adjacent to the Colombo Port.
MEPA Chairman Dharshani Lahandapura said seven whales, 36 dolphins and 369 turtles had died as a result of the incident.
She noted steps to remove the wreckage of the ship will be taken by the end of this month or the beginning of next month.
Lahandapura said the parent company of the vessel had called tenders in this regard and selected a faction.
She added details will be announced on Friday, the 15th of October.
