The Court of Appeal will today consider a writ petition filed calling for a criminal investigation to be conducted over the distribution of substandard LP gas cylinders.

The petition was filed by civil activist Attorney Nagananda Kodituwakku.

The petition called for an order to be issued to the Inspector General of Police to conduct the relevant criminal investigation.

Another request is to direct the Litro Gas and Laugfs Gas companies to compensate owners of residences that reported damages due to gas related accidents.

Attorney Nagananda Kodituwakku also requested the cylinders containing the controversial gas stocks be removed from the market.

10 parties including the Attorney General, Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, the two gas companies, Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority and Sri Lanka Standards Institution have been named as respondents.
