The United National Party says the government’s hesitance to go before the International Monetary Fund signifies that those in governance are a group that rules the country fraudulently.
The UNP said the inability of leaders to deal with a disciplined organisation such as the IMF also indicates the fraudulence within those in power.
Chairman of the United National Party Wajira Abeywardena speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday said institutions such as the United Nations, the IMF, the World Bank, and the Asian Development Bank were established after World War I and II, to uplift countries battered by conflicts.
He added the IMF is a body that imposes financial regulations on countries to help control finances better in a disciplined and structured manner without stealing public funds.
Abeywardena said following a guarantee by the IMF, financial loan lending institutions will not hesitate to support Sri Lanka, adding that at present Sri Lanka’s credit rating standings are at its lowest.
