State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna says action that will be taken regarding substandard gas cylinders at houses and with sales agents will be notified to the public periodically.

Speaking during the weekly Cabinet decisions media briefing at the Department of Government Information, State Minister Alagiyawanna requested the public to be cautious regarding the use of gas, over the next few days.

The State Minister noted the government will not hesitate to take legal action against gas companies, over the gas related incidents.

He said if the government takes legal action in a manner that is beneficial to companies, it will not let the government achieve its goal.

The State Minister claimed Police had confirmed that one incident reported recently was a suicide and not related to gas.

He said another incident was reported in which an individual who sustained burns in a gas related fire had died of a heart attack, after being discharged from hospital.

State Minister Alagiyawanna said three gas related deaths were reported earlier this year adding similar incidents have been reported in the country in the past as well.

He added the responsibility of the government is to prevent such accidents.

The State Minister noted the government will take steps to serve justice to consumers, based on information that will be uncovered in future.
