The Ceylon Teachers Service Union says teacher unions are not on strike but have withdrawn temporarily from online teaching activities which were initiated voluntarily.
Taking to social media Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinhe said it was reported that principals of certain schools have intimidated faculty and graduated teachers who are on internship training to report to work.
Mahinda Jayasinhe informed teachers serving on probation to not be intimidated by such incidents and continue the trade union struggle, adding that the teachers and principals alliance will stand up for their rights in any instance.
He added teachers have the right to engage in trade union action. Jayasinhe claimed the leader of the teacher union that is supporting the government’s agenda has spread more lies, about deaths of teachers, adding that society has rejected such false claims.
He noted the deaths were not related to protests launched by teachers, and it was confirmed that the claims were false.
He strongly condemned such claims.
