Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal have held talks on a number of issues affecting the industrial sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Issues faced when procuring essential raw materials due to import restrictions were discussed at the meeting.
Views were also expressed on issues faced by industrialists when obtaining raw material for industries whose import ban was lifted on the 11th of June, including obtaining Letters of Credit from banks for imports.
Governor Cabraal said the Central Bank will take steps to intervene in this regard.
Furthermore, Minister Weerawansa said there are obstacles in importing basic vehicle models required to assemble vehicles due to the import restriction on vehicles.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Industries said, the Central Bank will take immediate steps to address this matter.
