The Opposition has questioned the government as to whether it is seeking further loan assistance from India with the intention of handing over Kachchatheevu Island.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Parliamentarian SM Marikkar said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe must present solutions to the prevailing crises since merely communicating the prevalent issues alone is not sufficient.
MP Marikkar claimed Prime Minister Wickremesinghe is a communicator and not a problem solver.
The Parliamentarian said the Indian delegation arrived for a three-hour meeting with the Head of State and the Premier to discuss provision of aid adding no country will provide loans without expecting something in return.
He questioned the motive of obtaining further loans at a time when the country is unable to repay existing debt.
The MP claimed high-ranking officials are not required to hold discussions when arranging loans.
Commenting on the opposition’s decision to boycott Parliament, Parliamentarian SM Marikkar said it is a waste of time to hold Parliamentary sessions if no solutions are sought for the issues.
MP Marikkar claimed they reached a decision to boycott Parliament to understand the seriousness of the prevailing crises.
He said there is no point in dragging out these issues.
On a separate note, the MP said queues will not cease merely due to engaging in talks with the International Monetary Fund to seek assistance.
He claimed the IMF will only assist in restructuring existing debt and not to end queues.
