Minister of Public Security Rt. Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera says he hopes to provide relief to Policemen who are facing human rights charges as a result of performing their duties.
The Minister said according to the Establishments Code, if charge sheets against the Police officers are not completed within six months, a system will be introduced to cancel the charge sheets.
Minister Weerasekera speaking at a Community Police empowerment programme in Kandy said discussions in this regard will be held with the Inspector General of Police in order to resolve this matter within a week.
The Minister said this discrepancy was revealed when promotions were being awarded recently adding that certain Policemen missed out on promotions owing to the charge sheets that are yet to be heard.
