Health trade unions have threatened to launch an indefinite token strike if the Ministry of Health fails to pay due attention to the resumption of union action based on several demands.

Speaking to NewsRadio, Convener of the Health Trade Union Confederation, Ravi Kumudesh said the next stages pertaining to the union action will be determined tomorrow.

Health unions resumed trade union in the form of a 48-hour token strike that will be worked off from 8am today till 8am on Friday.

Kumudesh expressed their regret to the public over any inconveniences claiming they have been forced to resort to union action periodically.

He charged that the Ministry of Health has failed to act responsibly and with sincerity.

Kumudesh added they launched the 48-hour strike to determine if the Ministry will resort to addressing their concerns.

However, Kumudesh claimed trade unions will be forced to launch an indefinite strike in 10-days.

He said the President’s decision to provide a Rs.70,000 increment and allowances to executive officers and doctors and also provide benefits to the Public Services United Nurses Union set a negative precedent
