Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage says the government will import high quality liquid nitrogen fertiliser from India.
The imported fertiliser will be distributed in Ampara, and other districts that are engaged in paddy cultivation by the ned of the month.
The Minister said he witnessed a boom in the Ampara District for paddy farming, with the expectation that farmers will receive chemical fertiliser for the upcoming ‘Maha Season’.
The Minister also noted that the Ampara District Agrarian Development Office is already being supplied with sufficient quantities of compost, organic fertiliser and potassium chloride.
Minister Aluthgamage revealed that District Agrarian Development Officers have pointed out that many farmers who gave up the profession have returned to cultivation, with the government promising to reimburse losses made in farming this season compared to the last, if any.
