Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa says his faction will form a new alliance with a group of progressive political parties.
Speaking to media in Colombo, MP Weerawansa said a decision has been taken to register the alliance in order to face future elections.
He said discussions are underway to register the alliance which will grant legal status.
When questioned about the new Cabinet and the Prime Minister, MP Weerawansa said the country needs an administration to steer the nation forward from the current crisis.
He said they are more concerned over certain individuals taking decisions that are detrimental to the country.
MP Wimal Weerawansa claimed that certain former Ministers are still playing a significant role in the administration to take forward their interest.
He said in order to prevent them from interfering, his faction is pushing for the re-enactment of clauses that were included in the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, such as provisions to prevent dual citizenship holders entering Parliament.
