Senior Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Rohana Luxman Piyadasa claims that reports have emerged of the President rejecting a proposal tabled by the SLFP to establish an interim government that does not include members of the Rajapaksa family.
Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy, Piyadasa said the 11 parties that were part of the government previously and a group of independent MPs held discussions with the President in a bid to end the current political impasse.
He said their main proposal was to establish an interim administration for a specific time period with the participation of all parties to resolve the current crisis.
Rohana Luxman Piyadasa noted the SLFP was of the view no member of the Rajapaksa family should be part of the interim administration.
He said after resolving the current economic issues they proposed to call for democratic elections.
Rohana Luxman Piyadasa said however the President has not accepted the proposal and claimed that the move will only worsen the political uncertainty in the country.
He noted without a stable administration, the current crisis cannot be resolved.
