The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has questioned the outcomes of the six-month road map unveiled by the Governor of the Central Bank, Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today, SJB National Organizer Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said according to the road map presented by the Central Bank Governor, it is impossible for Sri Lanka to face an economic crisis.
The Parliamentarian said the statements made by the Central Bank were regretful. MP Attanayake said the road map had included policies that would increase foreign remittances, prevent economic collapse and increase the country’s foreign earnings but it had been unsuccessful in achieving those objectives.
The Parliamentarian charged Governor Cabraal of having failed to achieve any of the objectives stated in the Central Bank’s six-month road map, although more than six months have lapsed since the Governor assumed duties.
MP Attanayake stated Governor Cabraal opposed Sri Lanka’s involvement with the International Monetary Fund and attempts to restructure the country’s debt while resorting to expressing his personal opinions on twitter to interfere with on-going efforts.
On a separate note, MP Attanayake claimed the Line of Credit with India of USD 1 Billion was signed under numerous stringent conditions.
The MP stated according to the conditions of the Line of Credit, India would have unrestricted access to Sri Lanka’s airspace, posing serious questions about the country’s independence.
He said although fancy wordings had been used in the agreement the condition allowed India to use the country’s airspace at will. The MP said no other country in the world had entered into agreements as such, and that the agreement would have a huge bearing on the country’s internal security and sovereignty.
MP Tissa Attanayake said the proposal to allow India to use Sri Lanka’s airspace without restrictions had been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on the 3rd of March.
